Commander Comments

Comrades,

2011 has been a great year for our post in which we supported countless Veteran activities and support our local Soldiers. I do not want to forget our community services in which Joe Barbosa and his team did an outstanding job with the Voice of Democracy, Patriots Pen and Teacher of the Year, all of which the team scrutinized over 160 applicants from our local schools. We are also moving the traditional VFW bingo nights to the Knights of Columbus (KoC) in Security. Of course next year will not slow down for Veteran activities, so check out the website for our events. Also, some additional 2012 promises, we are putting together a Men’s Auxiliary group, so if this sounds interesting we will be looking for leadership and new Men’s Auxiliary members. Swing by the Post or shoot me an email with new member’s names.

House Committee News

Hi, Hope everyone had a great holiday season.

First I want to thank all who help make the pancake fund raiser a success.

As the year 2011 came to an end we had a great success at the post. Am looking forward to help make 2012 a bigger and better year for the post with many functions, activities and growth.

Want to thank Jeff Buchwalter for stepping up to fill the 3 year house and finance slot plus he will be taking over the house chairmanship in the future. Let's give him all our support

Our Bingo is moving to the Knights of Columbus in Security on Thursdays starting 12 January. We will be needing plenty of help to make this a successful money maker which goes to the post to help with all the functions the post as been doing.

On the fourth Sunday of every month you will notice we have a new breakfast team, come by and have them wait on you while you eat breakfast .

We will be having a Super Bowl party at the post again this year.

Just a reminder if you see something that needs fixed or change please let someone know.

Canteen Corner

Thank You! These are two small words that make a world of difference to members when they volunteer their skills for the benefit our post.

December was a busy month at the Post Home. Many members stepped up to help make sure that all of the events went off without issues. I want to thank them for all of their assistance whether it was helping prepare food for events, washing dishes afterwards, or just getting ice for the bartenders when they were busy.

Although my gratitude is equal amongst the many volunteers that make VFW Post 3917 a great organization, there is one member that I wish to signal out. Thanks Earl Havens for all the extra time you spent with me prior to your temporary leave of absence and the phone assistance during your recovery time. Without your additional instruction, I know that I would not have had as smooth of a time helping to cover canteen operations. For those of us who don’t say it often enough, you do an excellent job in ensuring that the Post Home is run successfully.

Yours in comradeship,

Laura Stone

Ladies Auxiliary Chaplin

I pray each one of you will have a prosperous 2012. Please be in prayer for Susan & Earl Havens they both have had medical problems. Be in Prayer for the Santiago family in the loss of Angela. Continue to Pray for Judith Buxmann. Also for our soldiers and their families. When we sustain a heartbreaking loss, When grief overwhelms our soul, The Savior who himself on the CROSS Reminds us that HE’S in control.
