Voice of Democracy

Since 1947, the Voice of Democracy has been the Veterans of Foreign Wars' premier scholarship program and is listed on the NASSP National Advisory List of Contests and Activities. Prizes totaling more than $2.5 million in scholarships and incentives are awarded at the local, district, state and national level.
The State (Department) winner receives an all-expense paid trip to Washington, D.C. in March to tour the city, meet our nation's leaders, be honored by the VFW and its Ladies Auxiliary, and receive their portion on the national awards and possibly a $30,000 scholarship!
The competition is open to students in grades 9-12, who are enrolled in a public, private or parochial high school or home study program. Students enter by submitting an original 3 to 5 minute patriotic themed speech and written essay along with the entry form. The theme for 2009 - 2010 is "Does America Still Have Heros?". Download the entry form below for more details.
All participants and their families will be recognized at a free dinner at Cheyenne Mountain VFW Post 3917 where the post level winners will be announced.
Deadline for entries is midnight, 1 November 2009.
